Star Cadre: Team Command Enters Beta Testing
Sunday, 6th September 2026
The forthcoming tactical combat game for MS-DOS has now entered its beta test stage. Star Cadre: Team Command is a game set in the far future, when humanity has expanded among the stars and has come into contact with other civilisations, both hostile and friendly. The player takes on the command of a team of elite operatives, who must arrive secretly at a variety of locations to undertake sensitive missions. Success in the most difficult of missions brings overall victory in the game.
Designed for 1980s hardware, Star Cadre: Team Command will run on any PC running MS-DOS, with an 8088 processor, and CGA or Hercules graphics. It will run, with limitations, from a single 360k floppy disk. It will be equally happy on faster PCs with better graphics and more storage space. And of course it will run on modern PCs through an emulator like DOSBox.
In line with 1980s sensibilities and the limitations of the target platform, in-game tutorials and hand-holding is minimal. So Star Cadre: Team Command comes with a full manual that includes a tutorial Player Guide, and a Reference Guide that players can use to identify environments, equipment and characters they encounter in the game.
The private beta test will run week by week, until a week goes by when no further bugs are reported. Its release will coincide with the MS-TRES DOS game jam run on Twitch. Keep checking here for further announcements.
