NameLib is a simple C library for generating random names for characters and places in procedurally generated games. Before its own separate release it was used in Star Cadre: Combat Class, The Chambers Beneath, and Star Cadre: Team Command.
Names are generated using data collected from text files and stored in a data file. This file defines consonant and verb groupings identified at the start, end and middle of words or names. The library can read in these definitions, and spit out new names on demand, allowing spontaneous generation of names for characters encountered and places visited.
Available downloads include a binary version of the library that can be linked with your own projects, and a source code version which you can compile for systems other than MS-DOS, and modify as you please.
